Introduced in 1934 by the Arechabala family of Cardenas, Cuba – Havana Club has roots going back as far as 1878. Nationalized after the Cuban Revolution of 1959 with no compensation to the family provided by the government at the time, the brand has undergone various changes of hands with some disputes as to the origins of the brand and name “Havana Club” – including worldwide spirit conglomerate Pernot Ricard and Barcardi, each engaged in the conflict.
